The most notorious slope on the Swiss side of the Portes du Soleil is Pas de Chavanette – known simply as ‘The Wall’ or ‘Swiss Wall’. It gets its name from being one of the steepest slopes in the world. Although it is only a 1km long, the descent covers a difference in altitude of nearly 400 metres, with gradients of up to 50 degrees. The resort also offers a great snowpark to meet the needs of freestylers – skiers & snowboarders alike. So if you fancy practicing your moves, jumps, landings then this is definitely worth a try! The Portes Du Soleil has an enviable snow record with its proximity to Mont Blanc and Lac Leman (Lake Geneva) which creates a superb snow making micro-climate, meaning the area tends to get above average snowfall from the start of December through to when the lifts close in late April. This makes the Portes du Soleil a freerider's paradise. Every Wednesday and Saturday evenings during high season & good weather permitting, Portes du Soleil offers night skiing between Champery and Les Crosets. Four ski lifts are open until 22:00 for this occasion. Unlike many other resorts, no additional ticket is required for night skiing. Other winter activities: ice-skating, snow shoe walking, ice-climbing, paragliding, curling, swimming (indoor), tennis (indoor), ski touring, sledging, tele-marking, cross country skiing, mountain walking & hiking. We will be happy to guide you to ski/snowboard rental shops and give you all the information you need to make the most out of your stay and when you come back after a hard days skiing, why not relax in the famous Val d’Illiez thermal baths minutes from the hotel. Especially therapeutic for those suffering from any joint or skin conditions, they are also wonderful as an après ski relaxing treat. The natural sulphur and magnesium baths are heated year round at a temperature of 33 degrees.
